Each patient at GiveHear has a unique and important story with hearing loss. Some have experienced it since birth while others have lost their hearing gradually over time. For Cindy, a GiveHear patient recently fit with a hearing aid, her loss left her feeling isolated and unbalanced.
“I was constantly having to turn my head in order to listen with my good ear or ask others to repeat themselves.” said Cindy.
After being denied coverage by her insurance at another clinic, Cindy was afraid restored hearing might not have been within her reach. But she was determined to find the relief she needed.
When she was connected to GiveHear, we were able to help her purchase the hearing aid at a reduced price determined by our sliding fee scale.
Before getting her new hearing aid, Cindy could feel herself withdrawing from social activities and spending time with family.
“I told my sister, when our family is together and everyone is talking, I feel like I have to just sit out because I miss so much of what is said,” said Cindy.
Now that she can hear in both ears again, Cindy is most excited for something many of us take for granted. When asked what she was most excited about hearing again, she explained:
“I’m looking forward to sitting and having conversations without constantly asking others to repeat themselves.”
Cindy’s new lease on life wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our community. Every gift goes to support someone’s journey with restored hearing.
