Astrid is five years old and has recently been fit with a new pair of hearing aids at the clinic, complete with sparkly pink ear molds. Her energy is contagious.
Like many children with hearing loss, Astrid was identified as a newborn in the NICU and was fit with her first pair of hearing aids at 8 months old. Because of her early identification, her family was able to connect her with resources for speech and hearing and today, she’s thriving.
“When you find out your newborn baby has significant hearing loss, it can fill you with questions and fear,” said Astrid’s mom. “But it doesn’t faze Astrid one bit. She’s so determined, I truly believe she can do anything she sets her mind to.”
Without early intervention, children can experience large speech development delays and struggle socially, amongst many other difficulties. Because of her early identification and the ongoing maintenance of hearing aids at the GiveHear clinic, Astrid has a chance to participate more fully in the world around her.
As the youngest of 4 children, Astrid loves spending time with her older siblings, dancing, and listening to music.
We’re thankful for supporters who make it possible to connect Astrid with hearing resources and wish her well as she starts school in the fall!
