GiveHear was founded on the principle of generosity. An entire day founded to celebrate Giving is something we love to support! While Giving Tuesday often has a focus on charitable giving (which we and other organizations do depend on!), the day is also about showing generosity through volunteering and acts of kindness. So this year, instead of just making a donation to your favorite charity, look for ways to create family traditions around giving that stretch throughout the whole holiday season.
Giving Tuesday is November 30 this year, so now is a great time to begin planning some ways to get your whole family involved in generosity this year. Here are 5 ways to get you started:
1. Donate Unused Toys and Books
A small way to show your children or grandchildren what it means to be selfless is to ask them to give their own possessions — help them understand how good it feels to help someone else by giving toys to those in need.
GiveHear Tip — you can donate new and gently used books at our clinic! We send books home with every child after their appointment to help with language development.
2. Help Them Develop Compassion and Empathy
Purchase books or choose movies and shows that feature individuals with different ability levels and help them embrace kindness, empathy, and inclusion.

3. Raise Support for a Cause as a Family
Small acts go a long way! They can host a lemonade or hot chocolate stand, offer services like gift wrapping, or create a short video to share on social media.
GiveHear Tip — you can set up a campaign on Facebook to raise money for your favorite charity and Facebook covers all the fees!
4. Volunteer as a Family
There are dozens or wonderful organizations just outside your door in need of volunteers. You can sign up to work with food banks in your area, rake leaves, or many other activities that nonprofits may need.
GiveHear Tip: Our patients volunteer after receiving hearing aids. Often they find it most fulfilling if it is connected to a cause they already care about.
5. Select a Giving Tuesday recipient as a Family
Depending on the age of your kids, this can look different for your family. An easy option is to create a list of nonprofit organizations that support causes you care about. Spend a few minutes teaching your kids about how each organization helps those in need and let them choose where to make a small donation or let them decide how to divvy up a larger sum.
GiveHear Tip: many organizations have short videos to share their mission. These could be an easy way to help your family connect with a mission. You can see the GiveHear video below.
At GiveHear, we believe generosity is the solution to a number of the world’s problems — including untreated hearing loss! Because of this, we know it is important to help teach these values to the next generation!
